Careers in Education - Two Year Program

The Careers in Education program is a two-year, hands-on pathway for students interested in teaching, early childhood education, counseling, human services, and other education-related careers. Students gain both classroom and real-world experience, working directly with children while earning college credit through Great Bay Community College.

Year 1 Overview:

Year 1 introduces child development, education systems, behavior management, and lesson planning. Students spend about half their time in The Wright Start Preschool, a licensed preschool for children ages 3–5, applying what they learn in class to real interactions with young children. Coursework includes Childhood Growth & Development, Foundations of Education, and Behavioral Challenges in the Classroom. Students earn multiple certifications, including CPR/First Aid/AED, Mental Health First Aid, Mandated Reporting, FERPA, and Universal Design for Learning (Level 1).

Year 2 Overview:

Year 2 builds on these foundations with advanced teaching strategies, inclusive education practices, and deeper classroom leadership. Students take on expanded roles in the preschool, complete classroom observations in K–12 settings, and design internships aligned with their career goals. Coursework covers Introduction to Exceptionalities and The Teaching & Learning Process, and students develop a professional portfolio to showcase their skills.
